More than 60 firefighters and six fire trucks were deployed to the downtown blaze on Dixon Street at about 12:40 p.m. and put it out by 2 p.m., a state fire and rescue services spokesman told Xinhua.
There were no reports of any casualties or evacuations at the commercial premises.
"It was an intense fire but it was quickly dealt with by our firefighters," he said.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing, he said.
